Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai

Both Higurashi and Steins Gate carry this notion of correcting time to create the perfect world. Both the main protagonists have to figure out what keeps making their world go wrong and when sent back in time have to use their accumulated knowledge to predict the best possible solution. In this situation the comparison is between Rika and Okabe, both finding themselves in similar situations bearing a great responsibility to protect their loved ones. 

Although Steins;Gate is not as gory and bloody as Higurashi, both have the concept of repeating the same scenes over and over again. In Steins;Gate the protagonist repeats the same events multiple times to save the people he loves. In Higurashi, Rika repeats the same events over and over again to try and save the town of Hinomizawa. 

Note: This is a recommendation for both seasons of Higurashi These two shows are similar in the sense that they are both about defying fate to reach a more perfect world. Both shows are placed in a world that have a seemingly unstoppable impending tragedy and the shows revolve around fighting what is said to be "fated." They also include some good humor and a lot of exiting mystery; you will be entertained from the first episode to the last. Both are amazing works and I would highly recommend one if you liked the other.  

Both involve a complicated and confusing story that unfolds itself in the end. Both involve redoing the same period of time over and over again(though its repeated more in Higurashi). I thought that Higurashi was more physiological but it doesn't mean Stein's Gate was any less interesting. If you liked one you'll definitely like the other. 

- Both have different timelines and worlds - Each time they mess up in another world they jump to another one. - Tries to save someone's life  

Tragedy, frustration and efforts that seem vain are present in both of these series. The sci-fi/supernatural approach is similar, but they have different plots overall. The hooks in both series are also simlar, as they build questions and curiosity whenever they have the chance. Pretty much masters of pace. 

The stories are very different, but have some significant similarities. Steins;Gate is a sci-fi, while Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai is supernatural. In both there are various circumstances which all lead to a terrible ending involving death and destruction. There are some significant differences between the two anime, including Higurashi having a lot of gore and Steins;Gate having a romance subplot (granted, Higurashi has one to an extent, though it doesn't lead anywhere). Warning: the following includes Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Higurashi season 1) spoilers In both anime the main character needs to stop the inevitable destruction of the future by going back in time (in Higurashi's case, the timeline and circumstances slightly change each time) and trying to stop what happens. read more 

**POSIBLE SPOILER** Both deal with time travel in order to save someone and in every time loop, the protagonist discover something about the past of the characters involving him. Also, the two have an unexpected main villain (don't wanna say anything more so I don't give more spoilers...). Also have the rest of the main cast helping the protagonist in order to get their goals, and the same kind of humor. And the most important!! Both are masterpieces having a well done use of the time-travelling. Worth watching! 

If "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" is similar to "ChäoS;HEAd" then "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai" is similar to "Steins;Gate" Time travel, MC desperation to save the village, nakama power, mysterious organization. It's all there. 

-Both revolve around the MC being able to travel to a different timeline multiple times in order to prevent something from happening -The mix of ups and downs in the story-line makes both of these shows really fun to watch :D 

It's difficult to word this well due to spoilers but, These are stories about defeating Fate itself in a really similar way. If you liked how one of them handled things, you might like the other. 

Both are incredible stories that flow quite similar one to another. The main characters share the power to go back in time (in Steins;Gate via Sci-Fi, in Higurashi via Fantasy) and are determined to defy fate/destiny. Both present unforgettable and unexpected plot twists that makes you think of any possible future. Higurashi is a lot more violent and gory with scenes that can be hard to watch while Steins;Gate is more of a easy watch kinda. 

My 2nd and 3rd all-time favorites. You might think that they are not similar at all, and I don't blame you cause you're only looking at the tip of the Iceberg. If you do believe they are not, I will have to disagree with you. Both of them revolve around fate and how to break it and prevent a disturbing tragedy from occuring. Which settles their main characters in an endless spiral of torture, be it physically, mentally, or psychologically, just to achieve the perfect timeline where they could just live in happily without the unfortunate mishaps. Two of the most thought-provoking pieces of media which are enveloped with rich philosophy that radically changes your point of view on specific departments of our small world and potentially makes you question your entire existence and belief. On higurashi's part, (If you're a fellow steins;gate fan watching it), and feel like it isn't going anywhere and it's all about gore and brutality then do not worry, little soldier, for you have to fight through the original higurashi to achieve the answers you seek which will satisfy your desire for needing to know what the fuck is going on in it. —Recommendation ends here, only read more if you've consumed both— Steins;Gate delves more into the time travel concept in itself without fantastical elements, and is completely realistic, while higurashi has some non-realistic elements. Though—although the answer is rather superficial and the author doesn't dive deep into its ocean—it gave logical scientific answers to some of the most insane phenomena. Steins digs profoundly into the time travel essence and heart, sticking on it and further doubling down on the consequences of changing past, as it's entirely circled around Okabe travelling through several timelines just so he could mayhaps find the timeline where he could break the circle of inevitability (no lotm pun intended) that has been haunting him ever since he has rejected the notion of abiding by God's rules on His world (by "changing" fate). Higurashi is more about questioning whether fate is sealed since the beginning of time, and if it is possible to change it, alongside many other interesting side questions, like: Could dreams be a distant shattered memory of an alternative event that we have experienced in one of the ever-expanding worldlines we exist in? And if they exist, how are these worldlines interconnected with each other? One more thing, steins;gate sticks to its core since the very start, while higurashi does not, as its main goal is to confuse the watcher as much as it could, before giving them the proper logical reasonings to their questions. Time Travel is not a thing in the original higurashi. Here are some of the main messages Ryukishi (author of higurashi) wanted to convey to us through his timeless work of art: - People could continue their atrocities and extend them, just because they might think that they're done for and it's not possible for them to atone for their sins. - If someone doesn't speak out with the others about his insidious psychological illness, this could lead to terrible demise that might as well end up with him killing someone at the worst case, if suicide was not committed beforehand. Aggravation of personal crises can lead to the worst thing you can imagine. It is the true evil of our world, and is the sharpest self destruction weapon. - What it tries to convey on a wide scale is that every single person is capable of being a horrible being. A murderer. Nobody is safe from that. Not even the most innocent ones. Intrusive thoughts can control you. A person who is suffering in any form or way should not be ignored. read more 

Both are centered around using time travel to prevent a series of murders, each loop becoming more and more tense. A major plot point centers around protecting a young girl (Satoko and Kayo) from their abusive relative, but the major goal is to uncover who is responsible, and the answer was right under their noses. 

Time travelling without time machine? Saving someone from death? yeah, both shows are delivers these concept with interesting plot .. Also When They Cry have more darken atmosphere than ERASED 

The action takes place on finding the perpetrator. 

Both series are related to going back in time to stop things happening in the future. The main characters of each know exactly what will happen in the time line, and are trying to change things even though they are both children, however they both have the brains of people a lot older than they actually are. 

Erased is very similar to Higurashi's "Minagoroshi" arc by the fact that both carry a prominent theme of friendship and are stories about a time travelling protagonist trying to save their young female friend from domestic abuse, while also trying to stop an unknown villain that lurks in the shadows. 

-Both of these shows are excellent for fans of psychological thrillers. They do an amazing job of keeping you wanting more -Both of the deal with sensitive topics that will make you angry (Good for overall enjoyment of the show) 

Both have deceptively cute artstyles that hide a dark plotline.  

Both animes try to change fate by retrial, both are very psychological, making you think about human values. 

Kai and the last few episodes of Madoka Magica both follow a similar story of changing fate 

Both of these series have a similar style, both have this naive design that may look like it's just childish anime even when they are so dark and deep. Not only this, but those two also have similar plotlines when it comes to the development of the series. Both are really great at character and plot development. With this said, I could not recommend a better anime that looks like Higurashi. 

I was originally going to write yet another recommendation for Steins;Gate, but after a while I decided on recommending Higurashi Kai to PMMM instead. Here's why~ Well, both shows obviously use time travel as a major point of the plot. You can expect to see a character endlessly repeating the same sequence of events over and over again to attain a desired outcome in both. However, the reason why I didn't just point you guys to the ultimate granddaddy of time travel anime, Steins;Gate, was because both Higurashi Kai and PMMM have a "mysterious" feeling to them. Both give you an uneasy feeling, which is supported by kawaii artstyles and adorable characters, with some seriously provoking themes in the background. Couple this with some immensely satisfying endings, and you have two very similar anime. If you like one, watch the other. If you haven't seen either, you're missing out on some great stuff here. read more 

**POSIBLE SPOILER** Time travelling, an dark psychotic atmosphere, the main protagonist suffering like a bitch and a lot of deaths (Higurashi's are goriest). Is easy to see their similities cause Rika and Homura are practically the same character, both having to watch their beloved ones diying, having a very serious personality 'cause the timetravels, watch their friends going crazy in some timelines and both are a hidden protagonist. Although the reason why Rika and Homura go through time are different, the two have to be with saving another people. Also, the two are masterpieces and this is practically demostrated with their high rating in MAL! 

The similarity shared with Endless Eight becomes apparent late at season 1 - with Rika being the keeper of time, and resets time in order to reach a happy ending, similar to the role for Yuki. Other characters eventually pass over memory between other loops and help to change fate. Even though being a Haruhi fan, I must say that Higurashi executes this much better in comparison. 

Both series feature mysterious elements such as aliens and infinite time loops/infinite summer/Endless Eight. 

Both series have the cast stuck in a time loop during the summer with only one person knowing through every loop and trying to change the outcome of that loop. 

Both are set in a rural ton where unknown horrific events unfold 

*Both anime utilize well the "village-wide", isolated "disaster" theme. *Both anime have dark overriding tones, intimate and manipulative perspective. shifts, and have their fair share of violence. *Both anime are relatively psychotic, and use death as a major theme. *Both anime escalate to the point best described as "war", and therefore tell a story of conflict - of great drama and friction.  

Both of these series had incredible writing. The stories were well woven, and will keep you guessing. Great evolution, great pacing, are two common themes shared by these series. 

Both MCs make a time leap into other parallel worlds after his/her death. They face into some tragedy and tend to change through the time leap. Both are bloodies and gores. Revolve around beautiful/cute characters. Both stories are excellent in giving out suspense vibe  

In both animes the MC has to leap through time to save the characters from getting into bad ending. Both animes include mysterious deaths and tragic endings. 

The tow MC want to save their friends and will try to change the future, Subaru in Re: Zero and Rika in Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai, in the two series are devil organizations trying to kill the MC friends, The two are very dark and gore. If you enjoyed Re: Zero you will enjoy Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai 

It involves a lot of suspense, drama, and murder just like the Higurashi. Relatively the same plot, but the series isn't full of girls. 

Thematically similar mysteries that appear superficially complete different 

Both Boogiepop and Higurash kai have a similar build up. Plot twists and multiple points of view are nothing unusual for these anime. Even though Boogiepop is weirder and harder to keep up with, the atmosphere in both is very dark and frightening. 

There are a lot of questions which are unanswered to the protagonists of these 2 series as well as to the viewers, when the answers are revealed it brings shock not only to the protagonists but also to the viewers as well. 

Both are somewhat stuck in a time loop. If the main characters die, they restart at a certain checkpoint. Re zero still has a lot of plot holes while Higurashi solves the mysteries. Episode 13 is a masterpiece of an episode for Higurashi, and I think that's where it hit its peak back in the day. Re:Zero hasn't really hit its peak yet.  

This is horror, filled with mysteries, psychotic, and just gruesome. Elfen Lied and this show both have friendships, mysterious scenes, great soundtracks.
