also done by Kyoto Animation, and produced by Visual Art's/Key. Looking for sad stories like in Air? Kanon is your answer, but twice as long and just as good. 

Both anime focus on a guy that doesn't know what to do with himself, and instead starts to help a girl fufilling her dreams. Also, the animations are quite alike, as they're both based on a visual novel by Key. 

Sola and Air are both tragic love stories riddled in mystery and supernatural abilities. A very short watch so if you prefer more drawn out anime then perhaps this is not going to be your cup of tea. If you enjoyed the way the writers choose to progress the story on an emotional level in one series then you're going to love it in the other. Similarly, if you hated how the director relied on mystery to keep the shallow love story alive in one anime you'll probably hate it in the other.  

Both made from the same company and in similar style. Both are moving and worthful. In Air story of protagonists take place in the past, in Clannad characters get together in other world. If you like Clannad, then you must to watch Air. 

At first glance ef-a Tale of Memories and Air do not seem to have much in common, the first being more focused on romance while the second deals primarily with tragedy and family ties, however these titles have a similar atmosphere to them. Both are character driven through and through, the interaction between the characters is what advances the plot. These anime are highly emotional in the way they approach human relationships, a stellar soundtrack and flawless animation make them akin in more ways than one. Especially relevant is the attention to detail in the several scenes that feature the sky that are simply gorgeous both in Air and in ef-a tale of memories. read more 

Beautiful Story, too much story about characters, beautiful, moe and kawaii characters. 

Both series share a similar style in theme and direction and an under lying plot that is emotionally heavy. They also share the same mix of character development, action, & romance throughout the series. 

Both deal with death, and how much it effects people. Both are also tragically depressing, yet beautiful. 

Although Air is deeper in emotions and Tutu is on the lighter side, I feel both heroines encounters difficult hardship at times. Both animes really touches my heart. 

Both involving strange/mad/problematic girls around a new man in town, temples and holy things. Both had alternative feelings (higurashi:comedy and horror, air:comedy and that sad drama)

Both are incredibly sad anime, and i could go into further detail of how they are somewhat similar, but it would have to include spoilers, so lets leave it as that. 

The main girl and boy from both anime have the same vibe. Especially since Kobato and Misuzu are always tripping and main boys always being tough with them. Both are very cute Anime  

The art for both is very beautiful, lovely animated. The soundtracks for both have beautiful soft tunes to them. both main females have long blonde hair which ges into a long pony tail. the story lines draw you in and they have a sence of magic in the air. 

Well there's romance in both, and even though they have a lot of differences when I was watching Shuffle! certain scenes reminded o me of Air (I won't spoil any thing) and there's a bit of supernatural in both as well. 

A supernatural tale that takes place in summer. Asatte no houkou is less deep, but gives you a lesson about true friendship, just like in Air.  

Both of these anime have melodrama that put the characters through serious times and overly nice and ditzy main girls.

Once again. Key Visuals. Fantastic, but sad. Check it out. Try also to get the OVA's if you watch it. It makes the series that much better 

Another bittersweet supernatural tale that takes place in the course of a single summer. While not as emotionally tumultuous as Air, Uta~Kata is brimming with melodrama and a storyline that rolls further into darker territory with every episode. 

The slowish yet engrossing pace, and the feel that the series gives off is about the same. 

Art, backdrop scenery, and color manipulation are spectacular in both. AIR fully develops the fragility of love and difficulty of human connection invoked in 5 cm. Both play on the theme of inevitable loss. 5 cm's brilliant music and use of silence is replicated in AIR. 

Both about a girl who's life isn't the greatest, but they don't seem to be sad.  

Both are pretty sad stories, elements in commor are, for example, a love between a human boy and an angel girl. Both are pretty sad but also enjoyable. 

Both are similar in terms of connection about curses , reincarnation and romance . 

Both share the genre Romance and Drama similar feelings both have lovable characters

both are somber themed stories with a supernatural twist to them. 

This story is a twist, never really know what would happen next, I think Air has that same affect but just not all the time like this anime... Truly amazing both are, but I dislike the way the characters turn out in this.... Really hate it...  

animation. then, the plot about a girl waiting until the guy gets his wits together and finally decides to save her/not save her. There is no fantasy in Kimi ga Nozomu and the urge to slap the main protagonist is 100x higher. But if you like drama-slice-of-life stories that make you cry then you will like to watch both. Watch Air even if you don't particulary like that genre cause it's worth it. (ok, so i am biased...^^)

Although Air would be superior in that regard, both are great picks if you're looking for a relaxing summer vibe with detailed and realistic scenery, summery sound effects, a chill OST and a slice of life pace. The stories are also similar. Both are about a new person arriving in some small country town and meeting, then befriending a air-headed girl who feels a strong, somewhat supernatural bond with people who lived 1,000 years ago. Both MCs get involved in the girl's obsession and both shows have flashback arcs featuring characters from 1,000 years ago. Both also feature drinking scenes, school, an expanding group of friends and a fair share of drama near the end. read more 

- Heavy emotional involvement - Involve watching someone slip away right before your eyes - Touching character interactions - Good character development (which Kowarekake no Orgel amazingly manages to do in 30 minutes) - Moe - Tugs on your heart strings - Great music, including some tracks with powerful vocals In reality, Kowarekake no Orgel is good if you're a fan of ANY of Key's works, but it's most similar to Air in terms of plot. 

Both have the same feel, emotion and slow pace.. 

Kakeru has another self like the main character and he never had friends till he met someone like himself like the main character 

same atmosphere: summer and i think ano natsu de matteru will have sad ending, but when i see onegai teacher, and the author said "i hate sad ending" so i dont know about the ending XD Both is interesting and good 

Knocking on your door, your destiny may be. Two stories that prove that nothing is impossible, when you strive to achieve it. A girl is unable to make friends because of illness. But a boy will support her at all times so she can share her happiness with others, something she has always wanted. 

Both deal with female protagonists with a haunted past, and involve a male protagonist who sets out to help said female lead achieve some kind of happiness in their lives, where they go with their resolutions is where these two shows are markedly different from each other. 

Both deal with female protagonists consigned to a tragic ending. The parallel between the final arc of AIR and the story of Kowarekake no Orgel is fairly direct, with the only major difference being that AIR deals with a child-parent relationship whereas Kowarekake involved a sibling-type bond. 

The Day I Became A God and Air are two anime produced by Key, a visual novel company known for Kanon, Clannad, Little Busters, and Angel Beats. Both anime are about a boy meeting a younger girl with a somewhat quirky personality and the summer they spend together. There are several other characters the main character meets who share a bit of their own stories with him as well. Watch either of these if you would like some sad moments (especially more present in Air), comedy (especially more present in The Day I Became A God), and decent animation. 

Both have a heavy summer vibe, confusing plot, amazing endings, and use heavy religious themes (Eva inspired by Christianity and Air inspired by Buddhism). To add to that, both series are very character focused and yet still have some fantastic worldbuilding. 

Great history and characters beautiful animation and ost, a masterpiece  

Both protagonists live with a strange girl and her wacky mother. 

While the supernatural element is more pronounced throughout Nagi no Asukara, they both involve events out of the main heroines control. They also both have a similar oceanside setting, while one focuses on the sky the other on the sea 

The character design is similar to that of Air's. Watashi looks like she can be Misuzu's cousin. 

The first thing that came to my mind when I started this anime, was Air. The "atmosphere" is very similar in both anime. The main characters have the same pesonality and have supernatural characteristics. Also they are similar when we talk about the development of the plot and let's not forget about the heartbreaking end. 

The series are both dramas created by Key Studios. In both shows, the main character meets a lonely girl and helps her with a problem she has. If you enjoy watching sad and touching stories, you'll probably like both anime. 

Both visual novel turned Animes with the same sort of concept of the female love arcs, Both have mysterious storyline, only bug with One is that you might want to look at the plot of the VN before you watch the OVA's 

Both might not be exactly the same but both have a supernatural theme to both of them, if you find Air interesting you might find Futakoi Alternative interesting. Futakoi Alternative was aired the same year as Air (2005) so they have similar graphics also. 

Similar style, Ef- a tale of melodies is slightly more artsy while Air is more fantasy, however they both have a very like feel to each other 

Both are romantic comedies ( air is not as funny but still) with "Supernatural" theme. Both main female characters are really sweet and inocent girls that enjoys the company of the male character ( wich also have similiar actitudes).

episodes 8-9 in Air seem a lot like Scrapped Princess two people are trying to protect someone who they say is "cursed" but not.They both are quite sad you should check them both out ;) 

Also based on a visual novel that explores the "routes"/stories of three different cute girls. Takes place in the summer with beach scenes. Gorgeous animation. Also deals with reincarnation. Air is a million times better - you will actually like the characters and feel invested in the story. 

Many of the characters in Air seem to be similar to those in Pita Ten. There's the mysterious girl, like Shia, and there's the hyperactive one with a strange past, like Misha. The storyline is also slightly similar, although Air has a darker side to it than Pita Ten. I love the mixture of romance and fantasy in both series.  

Both are drama/supernatural with strong similarities in the plot. Also they have: - Main guy who is antisocial at first but slowly warms up to the heroine. - Energetic naive heroine who does her best to help others and make friends. - An unexpected event that occurs regarding the heroine. - A beautiful scene of bonding mother-daughter near the end. - The main guy has crucial scenes with the heroine near by the sea/beach. - The heroine is somehow related to the sky: In Air, she names her crow "Sora"(Sky) and she is related to the Sky maiden while in Natsu no Sora the heroine´s name is Sora and she loves the sky of her hometown. If you like Air, you will definitely like Natsu no Sora, although Air is more centered in fantasy while Natsu no Sora is more slice of life.  read more 

Both show a conflectual and distant relation between an aunt and her niece. The settings are completely differents and Air has supernatural elements, but they have themes in common: death at a young age, loss of one loved and the the heavy responsability that is taking of one relative, whether you're an aunt or a big brother. However Air doesn't try to degrade one part to make us pity the other, it shows the best side of each characters. And a mother that looked immature at first may carry for her daughter more that it seemed, an absent father may be concerned for his daughter and make decisions for her sake. Unlike Grave of the Fireflies which has villains characters that are just villains and miserable characters that are just miserable. Also in Grave of the Fireflies the characters don't try to think of their situations to make things better, they are just passive, while in Air the characters try to repair what has been broken and this till the very end. In this point of view, Air is more complete and honest than Grave of the Fireflies.  read more 

If you liked Clannad (THE MOVIE), then Air is pretty much the same. It tells you basically to not waste your life away and it shows you how precious life is. I think one of the most important thing about watching anime is the story or the lesson we learn behind it. And this Clannad movie and Air tells you it in a very moving way. The pictures in both are brilliant. As they ARE from the same anime group. It is absolutely worthwhile to watch them BOTH.

Both anime are fairly central around a lead male who becomes friends with several girls - each of whom have their own dark sides to deal with. Whereas for the most part Air seems to be quite a lighthearted anime in comparison to Elfen Lied, there's a particularly dark underlying story that becomes more prominant as the story goes on. If you like anime that make you cry then I highly recommend them both!! 

Both animes talk about the curse of Celestial maidens and how that affects the main girls. Although Ayashi is full of action, and Air is slice of life, we can see the main girls goal, trying to break the curses. Both animes make you cry with tragic characters.  

This is a recommendation for those who are looking for other anime with a similar feel rather than mark by mark comparisons. Air is packed with less action (which is pretty much only in the summer specials), no harem, and no triangles. Instead, you will be treated to more supernatural occurrences, intense drama, and a similar bond that has lasted through time. Curious? Give Air a try. 

Not similar plotline related, but they're both sad anime, thou Kashimashi isnt near as sad as Air, but still. Anyways, if you liked one you may like the other, i know i sure do ^^. 

These two series are bishoujo, visual novel-based harems. They feature a colorful cast of characters that actually get development (some more than others) in their respective arcs. Grisaia is more fanservice and violence-heavy, though. They both contain tragedy and plot twists. 

Both are a story of love which is torn apart by an illness. Either you like them or not but you will never forget them. 

It really is very hard to compare both without spoiling the total experience. If you enjoyed the tear-jerking, bittersweet ending of Air, then you will probably like the story of Iriya no Sora. While not as tear-jerking per se, you might find the similarities between the main heroines quite amusing in a sense...well more like depressing really. The genres itself may be completely different, but the overall plot is relatively the same.

These are dramas about schoolchildren with problems and the comfort that they get from the men that take care of them. The man also meets many other friends to interact with.
